Strength & Conditioning

Build a More Capable Body

Strength and conditioning is about more than getting stronger or improving fitness. It is about developing the physical capacity to do more, tolerate more, and continue doing the things that matter to you.

At Life Well Dunn, training is built around developing strength, movement quality, athleticism, resilience, and confidence in your body's capabilities.

Whether your goal is higher level sport performance, staying active for decades, or simply feeling stronger and more capable in everyday life, training should prepare you for more than the next workout.

It should prepare you for what you want your body to be able to do.

Training Should Make You More Capable

Strength has always been about more than the amount of weight you can lift.

It is about increasing your ability to meet physical demands, whether those demands come from competition, work, family, recreation, or simply getting older.

I believe training should leave you more capable than when you started. More capable of producing force, moving efficiently, tolerating physical demands, recovering, and adapting over time.

That does not mean everyone needs to train the same way.

An athlete preparing for competition has different needs than an adult who wants to remain strong and active for decades. Your training should reflect your body, your goals, your experience, and the demands you're preparing for.

Build strength. Develop capacity. Move with confidence. Stay capable.

Individualized Training

A good training program should have a reason behind it.

Your training begins with understanding where you are now, what you want to accomplish, your training history, the demands placed on your body, and what may be limiting you.

From there, programming can be built around the physical qualities that matter for you.

Depending on your goals, training may include:

Strength

Develop the ability to produce and tolerate force while building a stronger foundation for sport, activity, and everyday life.

Power

Develop the ability to express force quickly through appropriate jumping, throwing, sprinting, and resistance training.

Movement

Develop the mobility, coordination, control, and movement options needed to perform the tasks that matter to you.

Speed and Athleticism

Develop acceleration, speed, change of direction, coordination, and other athletic qualities based on the demands of your sport or activity.

Capacity and Conditioning

Develop the physical capacity to perform, recover, repeat efforts, and tolerate the demands of training, competition, and life.

The emphasis will look different for every person.

The program should fit the person, not the person fit the program.

Train for What Your Life Demands

For an athlete, being capable may mean accelerating faster, producing more force, changing direction efficiently, tolerating the demands of a season, or continuing to perform late in competition.

For an adult, it may mean being strong enough to do the things you enjoy, staying active as you age, moving without constantly worrying about what your body can handle, or maintaining the physical freedom to participate in your life.

Those goals may look different, but the principle is the same.

Build the physical capacity for what you want to be able to do.

Training is not about chasing numbers simply because they can be measured. Strength, power, speed, conditioning, and movement are tools.

What matters is what those qualities allow you to do.

Confidence in Your Body Matters

Physical capability is not only about performance.

There is value in knowing that your body can handle difficult things.

Progressively developing strength, movement, and physical capacity can create greater confidence in what your body is capable of doing. Instead of constantly avoiding physical demands, good training can help you prepare for them.

That process should be progressive and appropriate for the person in front of me.

The goal is not to prove how much you can tolerate in a workout.

The goal is to expand what you're prepared to handle over time.

Nearly Two Decades in Human Performance

Before becoming a therapist and mental performance coach, I spent nearly two decades working in strength and conditioning and human performance.

That experience continues to shape how I coach.

I don't believe training needs to be complicated for the sake of being complicated. It needs to have purpose, appropriate progression, and enough flexibility to respond to the person doing it.

The goal is not to create dependence on a coach or a program.

It's to help you become stronger, more capable, and more confident in what your body can do.
